RAVEL HIGH SCHOOL'S EUROPEAN COMMITMENT: AN ACTION PUBLICLY RECOGNIZED DURING THE CEREMONIES OF JUNE 18, 2026

Son excellence M l’Ambassadeur de Pologne en France était présent ce jeudi 18 juin lors des cérémonies officielles organisées par la municipalité pour,  d’une part, commémorer l’appel fameux lancé par le général de Gaulle en 1940 afin d’inciter les Français  à la Résistance et, d’autre part, célébrer l’opération ARIEL à Saint-Jean-de-Luz. M le sénateur Max Brisson, les élus locaux de Ciboure et Saint-Jean-de-luz, des représentants des anciens combattants et d'association intéressées par les enjeux mémoriaux et la coopération franco-polonaise (parmi lesquelles la Ligue ILARGIA , dont le siège est situé dans la cité scolaire Ravel).

His Excellency the Ambassador of Poland to France was present on Thursday, June 18th, at the official ceremonies organized by the municipality to commemorate General de Gaulle's famous appeal of 1940, urging the French to join the Resistance, and to celebrate Operation ARIEL in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Also present were Senator Max Brisson, local elected officials from Ciboure and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, representatives of veterans' associations, and members of organizations interested in memorial issues and Franco-Polish cooperation (including the ILARGIA League, headquartered in the Ravel school complex).

A l’issue des deux hommages officiels (le premier au monument aux morts, le second devant la stèle posée sur la façade latérale de la mairie) le haut représentant de la République de Pologne a remis deux médailles distinguant  M le Maire, Jean-François Irigoyen, et le M le Président Honoraire de l’association «Amitiés Pays Basque  – Pologne» ancien adjoint en charge des anciens combattants, Jean-Luc Casteret,  à l’origine d’un effort entrepris par la Ville dès 2020, pour renforcer les relations franco-polonaises et faire reconnaître l’action de la Pologne dans la libération de la France et la lutte contre l’Axe, mais aussi la coopération entre soldats polonais et pêcheurs basques lors de la grande opération d’évacuation de juin 1940, où 9000 personnes embarquèrent depuis notre baie à destination de ports britanniques.

At the end of the two official tributes (the first at the war memorial, the second in front of the stele placed on the side facade of the town hall) the high representative of the Republic of Poland presented two medals distinguishing the Mayor, Jean-François Irigoyen, and the Honorary President of the association “Friendships Basque Country – Poland” former deputy in charge of veterans, Jean-Luc Casteret, who initiated an effort undertaken by the City from 2020 onwards, to strengthen Franco-Polish relations and to have Poland’s action in the liberation of France and the fight against the Axis recognized, but also the cooperation between Polish soldiers and Basque fishermen during the great evacuation operation of June 1940, where 9000 people embarked from our bay bound for British ports.

 

Dans son discours, M l’Ambassadeur a souligné combien, à ses yeux, la lutte pour la Liberté était aussi un combat pour la Paix et la Sécurité, et s’est félicité de l’ampleur des activités menées dans la cité des Corsaires pour honorer la mémoire des soldats polonais et entretenir la flamme de l’amitié entre les deux nations française et polonaise ; à ce titre, il a nommément mentionné les projets ERASMUS+ du Lycée Ravel et la collaboration étroite entre ce dernier et le Lycée de Kwidzyn (Społeczne Liceum im. Polskich Noblistów w Kwidzynie). En 2026 ce projet ancien (ACMÉ) s'est décliné notamment sous la forme d'un eTwinning baptisé PALDIES et de plusieurs rencontres concrètes !

 

In his speech, the Ambassador stressed how, in his view, the struggle for Freedom was also a fight for Peace and Security, and welcomed the scale of the activities carried out in the city of Corsairs to honor the memory of Polish soldiers and to maintain the flame of friendship between the two nations, French and Polish; in this regard, he specifically mentioned the ERASMUS+ projects of the Lycée Ravel and the close collaboration between the latter and the Lycée de Kwidzyn (Społeczne Liceum im. Polskich Noblistów w Kwidzynie). In 2026, this long-standing project (ACMÉ) took the form of an eTwinning initiative named PALDIES, as well as several in-person meetings!.

Ce dernier était encore tout récemment en visite chez nous (du 25 au 29 mai) ce qui a été l’occasion de l’installation  dans la cour de l’établissement, par l'entremise de M Jean Hélou, des panneaux de l’exposition ARIEL, conçue par la Ville et l’Office National des Anciens Combattants.

 

Pour Pomeranian partner was recently visiting us (from May 25 to 29), which provided the opportunity to install the ARIEL exhibition panels in the schoolyard, through Mr. Jean Hélou, designed by the City and the National Office for Veterans (ONACVG).

En marge de la manifestation, P-L Vanderplancke, enseignant référent (ERAEI) du lycée, a eu l’opportunité de discuter de projets futurs portant sur l’Histoire et la Mémoire des conflits mondiaux avec M Maxime Saint-Germes, Directeur de l’ONACVG des Pyrénées-Atlantiques, organisme qui avait labellisé les activités de commémoration des 80 ans de la Libération implantées au Lycée Ravel en 2025 dans le cadre du  colloque DONIBANE Scholar co-organisé avec la Ligue ILARGIA.  

Alongside the event, P-L Vanderplancke, the school's Erasmus+ coordinator (ERAEI), had the opportunity to discuss future projects on the History and Memory of world conflicts with M Maxime Saint-Germes, Director of the ONACVG of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the organization that had certified the commemoration activities of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation implemented at the Lycée Ravel in 2025 as part of the DONIBANE Scholar colloquium co-organized with the ILARGIA League.

GDANSK ET KWIDZYN en avril / ACMÉ MOBILITY IN POLAND by Lycée Ravel and Społeczne Liceum Ogólnokształcące im Polskich Noblistów w Kwidzynie

 

Arrivés à Gdansk le 26 avril au soir, les terminales (BFI et Germanistes) présents dans le cadre de la mobilité accréditée PRINTEMPS POLONAIS 2026 ont visité le quartier de leur hôtel, à Gdansk, le matin du lundi 27 avril. Les seize élèves participants et leurs professeurs, M Vanderplancke et M Puyjalon, ont ensuite été rejoints par leurs homologues du lycée de Kwidzyn, pour visiter tous ensemble et  avant midi la Westerplatte, le lieu où débuta la seconde guerre mondiale. Une première journée très bien remplie, puisque, après un repas typique pris en commun dans un restaurant du centre-ville (la découverte de celui-ci étant facilitée par des exposés faits par les élèves de Kwidzyn) l'après-midi fut consacrée à la visite du Centre Solidarnosc. L'agenda du mardi 28 fut dominé par des ateliers de socialisation et l'intégration dans le lycée partenaire ; toutefois, l'ouverture culturelle n'a pas été pas négligée (tout au contraire, les apprenants et leurs professeurs ont réalisé une visite transnationale de la cathédrale de kwidzyn). Des ateliers éducatifs (dans le prolongement des premiers travaux entamés la veille) furent mis en oeuvre le mercredi 29 mais surtout, une "soirée" comprenant  des jeux et des collaborations ludiques (cuisine, repas, quizz, et danses - ce qui tombait bien, par le hasard du calendrier : cette journée du 29 étant en effet dédiée à la célébration de la danse, partout dans le monde). L'étude de l'histoire de la Shoah et de la seconde guerre mondiale fut enfin au coeur des activités du jeudi 30 avril (visites du camp de concentration de Stutthof et du Musée de Gdansk consacré au conflit). Pour achever de réfléchir à la résilience et conclure la mobilité par un moment   plus touristique, on gagna la station balnéaire de Sopot le 1er mai, avant  de rejoindre l'aéroport pour s'envoler après 18 heures en direction de Bordeaux, via Amsterdam.

Arriving in Gdansk on the evening of April 26, the final-year students (BFI and German Studies) participating in the accredited Polish Spring 2026 mobility program visited the neighborhood of their hotel in Gdansk on the morning of Monday, April 27. 

The sixteen participating students and their teachers, Mr. Vanderplancke and Mr. Puyjalon, were then joined by their counterparts from the Kwidzyn high school to visit Westerplatte, the site where the Second World War began, before noon.It was a very full first day, as after a typical meal together in a downtown restaurant (the discovery of which was facilitated by presentations given by the Kwidzyn students), the afternoon was devoted to a visit to the Solidarity Center. 

Tuesday the 28th: agenda was dominated by socialization workshops and integration into the partner high school. However, cultural enrichment was not neglected (quite the contrary, the students and their teachers undertook a transnational visit to Kwidzyn Cathedral). Educational workshops (a continuation of the initial work begun the previous day) were held on Wednesday the 29th, but above all, an "evening" included games and playful collaborations (cooking, meals, quizzes, and dancing – which was a fitting coincidence, as the 29th was International Dance Day).The study of the history of the Holocaust and the Second World War was the focus of activities on Thursday, April 30th (visits to the Stutthof concentration camp and the Gdansk Museum dedicated to the conflict). To further explore resilience and conclude the exchange with a more touristic experience, the group traveled to the seaside resort of Sopot on May 1st, before heading to the airport for a flight after 6 p.m. to Bordeaux, via Amsterdam.

CONFÉRENCE TRILATÉRALE AU LYCÉE RAVEL ET HOMMAGE AUX RÉSISTANTS ET COMBATTANTS DE LA SECONDE GUERRE MONDIALE

 La cité solaire Ravel a reçu, entre le 16 et le 20 juin 2025, dans le cadre de l'eTwinning CITIZEN's.GAIN, deux représentantes (un enseignante et une élève) du Lycée polonais "Społeczne Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Polskich Noblistów" situé à Kwidzyn, partenaire historique du Lycée Ravel(membre, à ses côtés, entre 2021 et 2023, du dispositif ERASMUS+ TERRE DE LÉGENDES et candidat, en 2025, à un nouveau partenariat simplifié subventionné par la commission européenne). 

CLIQUEZ SUR LE DRAPEAU POLONAIS POUR PRENDRE CONNAISSANCEDES DÉCISIONS PRISES CONCERNANT ACMÉ 2026  ET LES PROJETS DE CANDIDATURE COMMUNE ERASMUS+

La professeure venue de Poméranie, Mme Angela Baas, a notamment pris part à un séminaire de coordination avec les pilotes du dispositif éducatif ACMÉ RESISTANCE au Pays Basque (les lycées de Beasain, en Gipuzkoa, et celui de Basauri, en Biscaye, mais également l'IES Plaza de la Cruz de Pampelune ayant tous envoyé des professeurs vers la Cité des Corsaires pour prendre part, le 18 juin, à une grande concertation pédagogique). 

De même qu'elle a pu intervenir dans le cadre du colloque sur les échanges transfrontaliers mis en place (ACROSS FRONTIERS) conjointement par la Ligue ILARGIA et le lycée Ravel et qu'elle s'est jointe aux convives invités au déjeuner officiel ayant clos les travaux de la conférence.

L'équipe pédagogique luzienne et ses amies polonaises ont également commémoré, à l'occasion des cérémonies du 18 juin, l'esprit de Résistance et les sacrifices des héros de la Libération, honorant spécialement la mémoire des soldats Polonais et des pêcheurs locaux impliqués dans la grande évacuation de juin 1940 (opération ARIEL). Cette rencontre associant des lycées situés dans trois états de l'Union Européenne (Pologne, Espagne et France) a débouché sur des contacts avec des représentants associatifs (parmi lesquels, une déléguée de la Cimade, les dirigeants de l'Association Amitiés France-Pologne, etc.) et a débouché sur une invitation, par la Municipalité de Saint-Jean-de-luz (soutien local des projets internationaux du Lycée Ravel) au Vin d'Honneur organisé en conclusion des cérémonies du 18 juin. A noter que le lycée Ravel prévoit d'envoyer dès l'année scolaire prochaine (sans doute vers Pâques) une vingtaine d'élèves de Terminale, vers Cracovie (Auschwitz) puis Gdansk (Westerplatte, musée Solidarnosc) avant de renouveler l'activité en 2027 - grâce à des mobilités accréditées ; mais aussi de recevoir en mai 2026 un groupe de lycéens venant de Kwidzyn. Par ailleurs, le principal thème des travaux initiés en Pays Basque a porté en 2025 sur l'étude des phénomènes totalitaires, dans l'Histoire comme dans une perspective d'éducation à la Citoyenneté, sujet qui reste inscrit à l'agenda de l'année 2026 et permet, entre autres, des débats croisés sur la mémoire du Franquisme, du Stalinisme ou du Nazisme et sur le devoir de Défense...

The Ravel "Cité Scolaire" received, as part of eTwinning CITIZEN's.GAIN, two representatives (a teacher and a student) from the Polish High School named  "Społeczne Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Polskich Noblistów" and located in Kwidzyn, a long-standing partner of the Ravel High School (a member, alongside it, between 2021 and 2023, of the ERASMUS+ TERRE DE LÉGENDES scheme and a candidate, in 2025, for a new simplified partnership subsidized by the European Commission). 

Ravel ikas-hiriak eTwinning CITIZEN's.GAIN ekimenaren barruan, Kwidzyn-en kokatutako Poloniako Bigarren Hezkuntzako Eskolako ( "Społeczne Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Polskich Noblistów" ) bi ordezkari (irakasle bat eta ikasle bat) jaso zituen. Eskola hori Ravel Bigarren Hezkuntzako Eskolaren bazkide historikoa da (2021 eta 2023 artean ERASMUS+ TERRE DE LÉGENDES programako kidea eta 2025ean Europako Batzordeak diruz lagundutako lankidetza sinplifikatu berri baterako hautagaia).

Pomeranian teacher Angela Baas participated in a coordination seminar with the pilots of the ACMÉ RESISTANCE educational system in the Basque Country (the high schools of Beasain, in Gipuzkoa, and that of Basauri, in Biscay, but also the IES Plaza de la Cruz in Pamplona having all sent teachers to the City of Corsairs to participate, on June 18, in a major educational consultation).

In the same way that she was able to intervene in the framework of the symposium on cross-border exchanges put in place (ACROSS FRONTIERS event) jointly by the Ilargia League and the Ravel high school and that she joined the invited guests at the official lunch that closed the work of the conference. The Ravel educational team and its Polish friends also commemorated, on the occasion of the ceremonies of June 18, the spirit of the Resistance and the sacrifices of the heroes of the Liberation, especially honoring the memory of the Polish soldiers and local fishermen involved in the great evacuation of June 1940 (Operation ARIEL). This meeting involving high schools located in three states of the European Union (Poland, Spain and France) led to contacts with associative representatives (among them, a delegate of the Cimade, the leaders of the Association Amitiés France-Poland, etc.) and led to an invitation by the Municipality of Saint-Jean-de-luz (local support of the international projects of the Lycée Ravel) to the Cocktail time (Vin d'Honneur) organized at the conclusion of the ceremonies of 18 June. It should be noted that Ravel high school plans to send twenty students from Terminale next school year (no doubt towards Easter) to Krakow (Auschwitz) then Gdansk (Westerplatte, Musée Solidarnosc) before renewing the activity in 2027 - thanks to accredited mobility, but also to receive in May 2026 a group of high school students from Kwidzyn. In addition, the main theme of the work initiated in the Basque Country in 2025 was on the study of totalitarian phenomena, in History as well as in the perspective of citizenship education, a subject that remains on the agenda for the year 2026 and allows, among others, cross-debates on the memory of Francoism, Stalinism or Nazism and on the duty of Defense...

Ligue ILargiak eta Ravel institutuak batera antolatutako mugaz gaindiko trukeei buruzko konferentzian (izena: ACROSS FRONTIER) ere hitz egin ahal izan zuen, eta konferentzia itxi zuen bazkari ofizialera gonbidatutako gonbidatuekin bat egin zuen. Luzian irakasle taldeak eta haien poloniar lagunek ere, ekainaren 18ko ekitaldietan, Erresistentziaren espiritua eta Askapeneko heroien sakrifizioak gogoratu zituzten, batez ere 1940ko ebakuazio handian (ARIEL Operazioa) parte hartu zuten poloniar soldaduen eta bertako arrantzaleen oroimena ohoratuz. Europar Batasuneko hiru estatutan (Polonia, Espainia eta Frantzia) kokatutako institutuak bildu zituen bilera honek elkarteetako ordezkariekin harremanetan jartzeko aukera eman zuen (Cimadeko ordezkari bat, Frantzia-Polonia Adiskidetasun Elkarteko buruzagiak, etab. barne) eta Donibane Lohizuneko Udalaren (Lycée Ravelen nazioarteko proiektuei tokiko laguntza) gonbidapena ekarri zuen. LOCAL CEREMONY IN FRANCE:Poland was honored and we found some interesting prospects for European cooperation

 ... particularly with the Baltic countries, Spain and Portugal

Un duo de professeurs, constitué par l'enseignant référent pour l'action européenne et internationale du Lycée (ERAEI) P-L Vanderplancke et le co-pilote du projet ACMÉ 2024, J-L Puyjalon, ont répondu à l'invitation lancée à notre établissement secondaire par la municipalité et l'association "Amitiés France-Pologne" et pris part aux cérémonies du 18 juin.

Un éclat particulier leur a été donné cette année sous l'impulsion de M. Jean-Luc Casteret : après l'hommage traditionnel à l'esprit de Résistance et au dévouement des combattants au monument aux Morts, une seconde cérémonie s'est déroulée en effet devant la stèle de la mairie dédiée aux évadés de France pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, pour célébrer le souvenir de l'opération Ariel.

Les deux cérémonies et le salut au drapeau ont eu lieu en présence de M le Ministre des affaires européennes, M le sous-préfet, MM les maires de Saint-Jean-de-Luz et Ciboure, mais aussi M le consul de Pologne à Lyon, mandaté par l'ambassadeur. Un hommage a été rendu à l'amitié franco-polonaise et au courage des soldats et civils évacués par la mer en juin 40 - certains depuis le port luzien, la Ville souhaitant dans l'avenir célébrer avec régularité le souvenir de cet événement héroïque.

Le Lycée Ravel entretenant des relations de longue date avec une école secondaire polonaise située à Kwidzyn (partie au récent projet ERASMUS+ TERRE DE LÉGENDES achevé en novembre mais encore au partenariat en distanciel ACMÉ) et poursuivant le but de travailler sur les valeurs et devoirs civiques avec son homologue, les professeurs estiment qu'il est pertinent de collaborer étroitement sur cette thématique avec les élus locaux (Mme Arribas, en charge des affaires scolaires et M Casteret,  responsable des anciens combattants et des relations avec la Défense) qu'ils remercient de leur soutien.

Par ailleurs des contacts fructueux ont été pris avec diverses personnalités ayant mené des projets pédagogiques internationaux très pertinents (notamment : sur les routes d'évasion par l'Espagne durant la seconde guerre mondiale ou autour du lieu de mémoire qu'est devenu Auschwitz, jusqu'à Vilnius, Riga et Tallin). Lesquelles pourraient être de futures intervenantes ou partenaires des équipes pédagogiques locales.

 A duo of teachers, including the reference teacher for the European and international action of the Lycée (ERAEI) P-L Vanderplancke and his co-pilot of the ACMÉ project, J-L Puyjalon, responded to the invitation launched to our secondary school by the municipality and of the “Amitiés France-Poland” association and took part in the ceremonies of June 18.

A particular shine was given to them this year: after the traditional tribute to the spirit of Resistance and the dedication of the fighters at the War Memorial, a second ceremony took place in front of the town hall stele dedicated to the escapees from France during WWII.

The two ceremonies and the flag salute took place in the presence of the Minister of European Affairs, the sub-prefect, the mayors of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Ciboure, but also the Polish consul in Lyon, who was mandated by Mr the ambassador. A tribute was paid to the Franco-Polish friendship and to the courage of the soldiers and civilians evacuated by sea in June 40 - some from Saint Jean's port, the City wishing in the future to regularly commemorate this heroïc evacuation (known as "operation Ariel").

The Lycée Ravel maintains long-standing relations with a Polish high school located in Kwidzyn (part of the recent ERASMUS+ TERRE DE LÉGENDES project completed in November but still in the ACMÉ distance learning partnership) and pursuing the aim of working on civic values ​​and duties with his counterpart, the teachers in Lycée Ravel believe that it is relevant to collaborate closely on this theme with local elected officials (both Mme Arribas in charge of school affairs and Mr Casteret responsible for veterans and relations with Defense).
Furthermore, fruitful contacts have been made with various personalities who have carried out various international educational projects (in particular: on the escape routes through Spain during the Second World War or around the place of memory that Auschwitz has become). Who could be future speakers or partners of local teaching teams.

A certificate was given on Wednesday the 17th to the students having taken part in the special week dedicated to European projects and to the promotion of the internationalization of learnings wich was implemented in Lycée Ravel (for the 4th year).

Les élèves de Première ayant contribué à alimenter le site de podcast destiné à devenir l'outil de diffusion privilégié du futur partenariat TOUS CITOYENS (ACMÉ) : toute la classe, impliquée dans le cadre du projet d'EMC et le groupe OIB - qui a effectué une partie des mobilités sortantes dans le cadre du partenariat eVe+ s'est vue décerner un diplôme symbolique marquant sa participation en tant qu'eTwinner dans le projet FORUM NOAH.

Quatre des six écoles censées rejoindre l'équipe ACMÉ sont déjà réunies dans le cadre de ce projet et nous invitons nos partenaires Tchèques et Polonais à s'y associer. 

Students of "Premières" who contributed to produce some contents for the podcast site called QUINTESSENCE.RADIO intended to become the preferred dissemination tool of the future ALL CITIZENS (ACMÉ) partnership: the whole class, as part of the EMC project - but some of the classmates  have completed some outgoing mobilityies as participants in the eVe+ partnership was awarded a symbolic diploma marking their participation as eTwinners in the FORUM NOAH project.

Four of the six schools supposed to join the ACMÉ team have already come together in the framework of this project and we invite our Czech and Polish partners to join in!

DE LA SEMAINE DE MOBILISATION DU LYCÉE EN FAVEUR DE L'OUVERTURE INTERNATIONALE ET EUROPÉENNE 

In the framework of the ERASMUS MOB event implemented in 2023 with the help of the ILARGIA LEAGUE, Ravel High School and partners, were already made :

on the 9th of May (Tuesday, Journée de l'Europe)

A school trip to Licq-Atherey to take part in the eVe+ QUINTESSENCE ERASMUS+ innovative partnership

on the 10th (Wednesday)

A Drawing workshops to take part in the Graphic Novels contest created to achieve the eVe+ project

and

A walk in Basque mountains with friends of the Eilert Sundt school (Norway) on the 9th of May in order to disseminate the mobility project held by EURO ANGLAIS section.

on the 11th (Thursday)

A videoconference with schools in Poland, Romania and Turkiyë in support of the E+ L.o.L. TERRE DE LÉGENDES cooperative partnership : Colegiul Economic Iulian Pop (Cluj-Napoca), Imam Hatip school (Antalya), Społeczne Liceum im. Polskich Noblistów w Kwidzynie.

on the 12th (Thursday)

A Sci-Fi movie and a debate at LE SELECT cinéma. To present to young people the end of World we are all wishing to avoid. The goal is to disseminate this activity and all the CINÉ-RENCONTRES cultural impacts and to support the festival named "L'être et le vivant" initiated by bookshop "le cinquième art".

EMPATHY AND ANIMALS PROTECTION IN THE NEXT ERASMUSMOB TO BE IMPLEMENTED IN OCTOBER, 2022

 WARNING!

Lycée Ravel is to organize in a couple of months the 3rd edition of a special activity ("la semaine de mobilisation en faveur de son ouverture internationale européenne" so called ERASMUSMOB event).

In the framework of this celebration, an exhibition will be done at the High School Library (CDI) by the French Pupils. This exibition's  name will be "Captain Sensible" and be dedicated to legendar and/or real samples of empathy between Human Beings and Animals.

In addition, partners ot the E+L.o.L. partnership visiting Saint Jean de Luz from the 10th to the 14th of october will take part in a boat tour to see dolphins in Cantabric Sea and will go to the cinema to see the sci-fi movie produced by E+A (Noah) teams. There will be also some videoconferences in wich we hope our former Erasmus+ partners will participe.
